FLYER PROMOTING THE 1938 TURKISH PREMIERE OF SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARVES

Last year, I had posted in this blog an image of a newspaper ad promoting the 1938 premiere of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves (1937) in Turkey and the above scan of a flyer (?) promoting the same premiere was shared on facebook a short while ago.

RARE BRITISH MICKEY MOUSE BOOK FROM THE LATE 1930'S

Early this month, I purchased this vintage Mickey Mouse book off ebay for a very reasonable price (mere 5 British pounds) due to its damaged spine. It is a quite rare book, currently only one copy being offered online elsewhere. It has been published by Britain's Collins Clear-Type Press and, like most vintage British Disney books, it is undated. The seller on ebay had estimated it to date from early the 1940's and the other online seller states it is from "circa 1938". One online Disney books index lists it as from 1937, but I haven't yet checked the reliability of that index in general. Nevertheless, the fact that Donald Duck as drawn in this book is no longer long-beaked (as he was drawn till at least 1936) is in tune with a late 1930s estimate. As the title Things to Make and Do indicates, the book is composed of illustrated text instructions on practical matters:
Perhaps the best, or rather the funniest, part is reserved for this 'The End' notice!:

ADDITIONAL BRITISH HIAWATHA STRIP FROM 1948

In the previous entry in this blog, I had posted about British-made Little Hiawatha strips published in Britain's Mickey Mouse Weekly in 1941. Recently, I came across the above two-row strip published in a issue of the bi-weekly Mickey Mouse (the successor to MMW) dated March 20th, 1948. At first glance, it looks like an American Sunday, but going over all Little Hiawatha Sundays yielded no corresponding Sunday, so it must be a British production. The most likely candidate for the art is veteran MMW artist Basil Reynolds who had returned to MM around those times and began making Disneyic material for the magazine.
